The McDonalds Story

A Volunteer Opportunity with Priceless Rewards

When we retired after being high school math and English teachers for many years, we knew that there would be things we’d miss: seeing that look on students' faces when they "got it"; seeing them grow throughout the school year; and knowing they were learning and understanding more and more. Also, teaching had helped us stay up-to-date with the younger generation.

We learned about W2C through our Reverend Kristin White at The Church of the Holy Spirit. When she found out that we had been high school teachers, she acquainted us with the W2C’s volunteer program. Her suggestion led us to our first chance to volunteer in January of 2011.

As we arrived, we had no idea what a wonderful experience we would have. Tutoring and interacting with these motivated young scholars has been highly rewarding. One student told Mr. McDonald that he never should have retired from teaching!

So when you retire and think that you have closed the door on your career, this volunteer opportunity can open your future to priceless experiences that you will never forget.
